Ronaldinho: Atletico Mineiro must attack in finale

The Brazilian icon says his side have to be positive to overturn their 2-0 deficit against Olimpia in the Copa Libertadores showpiece second leg.
Atletico Mineiro star Ronaldinho says his side will attack from the start of the second leg of the Copa Libertadores final with Olimpia on Wednesday.

The Brazilian outfit trail 2-0 to the Paraguayan side from the first leg and the 33-year-old midfielder insists he and his team-mates need to be positive from the outset.

"We are not going to be afraid to attack," Ronaldinho told reporters on Tuesday. "If they want to sit back and defend it is going to be a game of attack against defence.

"We have to pay special attention to the possibility of them catching us out on the counterattack because they have some quality players. But we are going to be positive from the start and try to score as early as possible to get the fans even more excited."

Ronaldinho has enjoyed an illustrious career, including winning the World Cup and the Champions League, and he is hoping he can add a Copa Libertadores title to his CV.

"I am lucky in finals. I usually score and hope that my good fortune continues," the former Barcelona attacker added.

"I will be forever grateful to these fans for the support they have given me. I have felt at home ever since I arrived at Atletico. The fans have provided a motivating force and we want to do all we can to make them happy."

The ex-Paris Saint-Germain star said that the focus should not be on him ahead of the game but that he wants to contribute to the club prevailing in the Copa Libertadores for the first ever time.

He said: "I always think of the group. I want it to be Atletico's day, not Ronaldinho's. But I also want to contribute if I can with a good pass or an assist and help the club make history by winning this title."
