The Blancos legend says his former teammate would be a better candidate to succeed Jose Mourinho than current front-runner Carlo Ancelotti
Roberto Carlos has thrown his support behind Zinedine Zidane in the running to become the next Real Madrid coach, saying the Frenchman is "ready" to take over the reins at the club.
The Blancos hot-seat is currently vacant following Jose Mourinho's departure to Chelsea, and a number of names have been linked with succeeding the 50-year-old, including current favorite Carlo Ancelotti.
However the legendary Madrid left back says his former teammate would prove the "ideal" appointment for the Liga runner up thanks to his illustrious spell between 2001 and 2006 at the Santiago Bernabeu.
“Zidane is ready for any post within Real Madrid. With his record, his calmness and his intelligence, he could do anything he wanted: coach, assistant, director," he said after Sunday’s 'Corazon Classic' between veterans of the capital club and Juventus.
"He would do everything with a great deal of calm, he’s a fantastic person for Real Madrid and he would be an ideal coach."
Nonetheless, the Brazilian - recently appointed Sivasspor coach - would not be against the idea of the current Paris Saint-Germain trainer replacing Mourinho but warned that he may need time to adapt to the role.
"Ancelotti is a great coach but there’s one problem: adaptation. At Real Madrid, you don't arrive and convince [people] overnight, you have to adapt to the philosophy of the club. And the players also have to understand him," he explained.
"The new coach at Madrid, Ancelotti or whoever, has to know that working at Real Madrid isn't so easy. Here, you must always win, whether in La Liga, the Champions League or the Copa del Rey; when you don't manage it, there’s controversy and conflicts."
