Bayern Munich 2-0 Barcelona

Bayern Munich continued their preparations for the new season with a 2-0 friendly victory over Barcelona at the Allianz Arena.

Philipp Lahm grabbed the opener midway through the first half and Mario Mandzukic completed the scoring seconds before full-time.

The match started at a decent pace, with Lionel Messi gaining possession in midfield within 30 seconds, sprinting to the Bayern box and bending a shot wide.Unsurprisngly, though, given the strength of their starting XI, the hosts soon took control and Toni Kroos had a powerful effort beaten away by Jose Pinto from the edge of the box.

Then, Franck Ribery began to exert his influence on the match. First, the Frenchman went on a brilliant run down the left, leaving his marker in his wake, and bent a great ball across the face of goal to Arjen Robben, who would have opened the scoring were it not for a brilliant bit of defending from Adriano.

Minutes later, the former Marseille winger had tapped the ball into the path of the overlapping David Alaba, who became the next player to test Pinto with a stinging drive.

Then, the inevitable goal finally arrived. Ribery clipped an inviting cross over the top of the Barca defence and Lahm leapt up to send a looping header over Pinto.

Barca's response was initially muted. Martin Montoya played a great ball from the right wing to the looming Sergi Roberto, who prodded wide when he should have equalised.

But Bayern were still doing all the running and were within inches from extending their lead, first when Muller clipped the bar with a long-range shot, then when the Germany international almost teed up Robben after a give-and-go with Alaba.

Cristian Tello had an effort late in the first half which failed to truly trouble the Bavarians as the opening period fizzled out.

With Barca having made a string of half-time changes, the stage was set for Bayern to go on and add to their tally.

And they continued their assault on the Barca goal after half-time. Ribery twisted and turned in the Catalans' box before unleashing a low drive which Oier saved, while Mandzukic contrived to let the rookie keeper save an effort from the midway inside the area when he should have buried it.

The second goal finally came minutes from the end. Diego Contento beat the offside trap on the left-hand side of midfield and squared it to Mandzukic, who could not miss from a matter of yards.
