Giampaolo Pazzini has revealed his regret at missing out on the second-leg of AC Milan's last-16 defeat to Barcelona last season.

The Rossoneri went into the game 2-0 up after a dominant first-leg performance but were ultimately beaten 4-0 at Camp Nou and knocked out of the competition.

The 28-year-old was forced to miss that encounter through injury and has admitted his six-month lay-off with a serious knee problem has been a painful experience after watching his team-mates battle on without him.

"Last season I wasn't able to play in that game (Barcelona) and I cannot wait to play in another match that is so important," he told the club's official website. I really like the Champions League and hopefully I can make the competition my goal for next season."

The Italy striker, who swapped Inter for the red and black of Milan last summer, then revealed his determination to keep working hard on his recovery and return to action as soon as possible.

He added: "It's been two months and everything is going well. It takes patience and for someone like me who has always played it isn't easy to just watch, but I have to just keep working hard."

Pazzini scored 15 times in 30 Serie A appearances last season.
