Fatih Terim hit with nine-game suspensio

The Turkish boss has been banned along with assistants Umit Davala and Hasan Sas, meaning Duygu Erdogan could become the first woman to coach a Super Lig side this weekend
Galatasaray coach Fatih Terim has been handed a nine-game ban by the Turkish Football Federation following his touchline antics during his side's league clash with Mersin Idmanyurdu.

Terim was sent from the dugout after reacting angrily to a series of decisions from the referee, while assistants Umit Davala and Hasan Sas were also given their marching orders for vociferous protests.

Terim, who already had a two-game suspended sentence for previous touchline offenses, will now face a nine-game suspension from the dugout, while Davala and Sas have been hit with one and two-match bans respectively.

The TFF sanctions mean reserve team coach Duygu Erdogan could take charge of the first team for their Super Lig clash with Kardemir Karabuk on Saturday, which would make her the first woman in history to coach a team in Turkey's top flight. Goalkeeping coach and former Brazil shot-stopper Taffarel is also in line to take charge.

Terim reacted furiously to his red card last week, insisting he should be given more respect by officials in Turkey, despite marching on to the pitch to confront referee Suleyman Abay during the match.

Two goals from Didier Drogba and a Felipe Melo penalty helped Gala record an impressive comeback win on the day, despite losing defender Dany Nounkeu to a red card after the hour mark.
