Napoli-Borussia Dortmund Betting Preview

Rafa Benitez has started life in eye-catching style in Naples and Al Hain-Cole expects his side to have some joy against a team more comfortable in attack than defence
Having come so close to lifting the trophy last season, Borussia Dortmund begin their Champions League campaign with an intimidating trip to the Stadio San Paolo to face Napoli on Wednesday.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have began the season with seven consecutive wins in competitive matches and are slight 6/4 (2.50) favourites with Coral to make it eight in a row this evening.

However, few can match Rafa Benitez’s European credentials, and he is available at 7/4 (2.75) to maintain his 100 per cent record since taking over in the south of Italy with victory tonight.

Die Schwarzgelben have drawn four of their last six matches on the road in this competition, and you can get odds of23/10 (3.30) on the teams sharing the spoils in this one.

Some may have doubted Benitez’s ability to take over a side built so successfully in predecessor Walter Mazzarri’s image and without key striker Edinson Cavani, but the Spaniard has hit the ground running after some intelligent signings.

Gonzalo Higuain has immediately picked up the goal-scoring mantle from Cavani with two in three games, while Marek Hamsik has flourished in his role behind the striker by hitting the back of the net four times in two starts in a rampant attacking team.

These forward-thinking instincts should make for an entertaining game against their aesthetically-pleasing visitors, and will surely continue the Partenopei’s record of scoring in every Champions League match to date.

The hosts scored an average of two goals per home game in their previous campaign in Europe’s elite competition and are more than capable of maintaining that form against a side which struggled defensively on the road in last season’s run to the final.

Klopp’s men have kept just one clean sheet in their previous 10 away fixtures in this competition and conceded twice in three of their last four European games, so odds of 6/4 (2.50) look extremely inviting on Napoli scoring at least twice, as they have in 11 of their last 13 competitive games.
