Atletico Madrid-Rayo Vallecano Betting Preview: Back the home side with a one-goal handicap

Our man in the Spanish capital believes Diego Simeone's men will comfortably see of their near neighbours in Sunday's derby clash
Barely a few kilometres separate these two capital clubs, so Sunday night's Madrid derby at the Vicente Calderon should be a lively contest.

The visitors got their campaign under way with a 3-0 win at home to Elche on Monday night, a result made all the more impressive by the fact that Rayo Vallecano have lost almost their entire first XI from last season.

They still like to play good football, though, and can be backed at 8/1 (9.00) with Coral to record a win over their more prestigious neighbours. Atletico Madrid, meanwhile, have looked impressive in their two competitive fixtures so far, winning 3-1 at Sevilla before holding Barcelona to a 1-1 draw in the Supercopa de Espana, and Diego Simeone's men are offered at 1/3 (1.33)
Despite Rayo's admirable efforts in their opening game of the campaign, a trip to the Calderon is one of the toughest matches of the season and, while Rayo will try and stick to their footballing principles, there is every chance that lacklustre defending will cost them.

Backing Atleti outright holds little interest, nor does investing in them to score over 1.5 goals at the marginally more appealing price of 4/11 (1.36)

Instead, backing the Rojiblancos with a -1 goal handicap at 4/5 (1.80) looks to be a much more solid option.

Six of Rayo's away defeats last season were by at least two goals and the way they play they will give Atletico chances, which the hosts have more than enough quality to capitalise upon.
