Casillas dropped by Real Madrid

The former Sevilla shot-stopper has been given the nod ahead of the Spain No.1 international in Carlo Ancelotti's first league game in charge against Betis
Iker Casillas has been overlooked for Real Madrid's opening La Liga match of the season against Betis, with Diego Lopez preferred to him in goal.

New coach Carlo Ancelotti, who will oversee his first Spanish league fixture on Sunday, revealed yesterday that he had not made up his mind on which goalkeeper would start.

Casillas, who was ousted by Lopez last season while Jose Mourinho was still in charge, was widely expected to get the nod over the former Sevilla shot-stopper.

However, Ancelotti has shown faith in Lopez, who made a number of fine performances for Madrid following his move in January, and kept his position in the team till the end of the campaign despite Casillas returning to full fitness.

Meanwhile, new signing Dani Carvajal has been given a start ahead of Alvaro Arbeloa, midfielders Xabi Alonso and Asier Illarramendi miss out while Pepe replaces the injured Raphael Varane.

Real Madrid (4-2-3-1): Diego Lopez; Carvajal, Pepe, Ramos, Marcelo; Khedira, Modric; Ozil, Ronaldo, Isco; Benzema.

Betis (4-2-3-1): Andersen; Chica, Perquis, Paulao, Nacho; Matilla, Nosa; VerdĂș, Juanfran, Cedrick; Molina
