Valdes thrilled with Barcelona start

The Blaugrana beat Levante 7-0 on Sunday to kick off their campaign and the 31-year-old was delighted with the result and the team's performance
Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes believes that the club's 7-0 annihilation of Levante was the best start imaginable and has lauded the tactics being trained under new coach Gerardo Martino.
The Argentine coach took charge of his first competitive fixture since taking the reins from Tito Vilanova on Sunday, as the Catalans began the defence of their Liga crown in unstoppable style.
Valdes, who is spending what he claims will be his final season at Camp Nou, expressed delight with Barca's performance in the rout and cited their relentless pressing as key to the win.
"It has been one of the best starts. You can see the team is intense, defending much higher to recover the ball and moving quickly to the opposition goal. It was what the coach wanted," the 31-year-old shot-stopper told reporters.
"Last year was unusual with the illness of the coach and certain aspects could not work because of what happened with Tito.
"To begin in this way is good. We have recovered aspects of the past and we hope that it will continue this way."
Barca will hope for a similar performance when they face Atletico Madrid on Wednesday in the first leg of the Supercopa de Espana, with kick-off at 23:00CET.
