La Liga Team of the Week: Messi, Isco & Cesc all shine

Four Barcelona players make the first selection of the current campaign after the Catalans' 7-0 win at home to Levante in the first round of Primera Division action at the weekend

The first round of Liga action saw 35 goals (including seven from Barcelona), with wins for the Catalans, Real Madrid, Atletico, Real Sociedad, Valencia, Athletic Bilbao, Villarreal, Granada and Rayo Vallecano. And many of those sides are featured in the first Goal Liga Team of the Week of 2013-14.

But Betis goalkeeper Andersen is chosen between the sticks despite finishing on the losing side, thanks to his heroics in the 2-1 defeat at Real Madrid.

In defence, Carlos Martinez was in fine form for Real Sociedad as the Basques began with a 2-0 win over Getafe, while Dani Alves was excellent for Barcelona and is one of four Blaugrana players included.Ricardo Costa was solid for Valencia and also scored the winner as Miroslav Djukic's side beat Malaga 1-0.

Cesc Fabregas was outstanding for Barca, while Isco inspired Madrid's win over Betis with an assist and the winning goal. Ander Herrera impressed as Athletic Bilbao beat Valladolid.

Lionel Messi and Pedro both secured maximum marks with a double apiece in the 7-0 win over Levante, while Diego Costa made light of life without Radamel Falcao with two goals for Atletico and Carlos Velashone for Real Sociedad in their win over Getafe, netting one and assisting another.
